Seeds, Soil to Sacred

Todays words , Seeds , Soil , Sacred, or Time, Talent, Treasures. My seasons of life’ so clear in pondering and reflecting on these six words. Where I have been, where I am today and where I am going all depended on these six words. It really all depends on how much I desire to spend on those things that lead to an abundant life, a life that the Sower of the Seed wants me to spend time on in this lifetime and in this season. The problem occurs when I lose my focus, I become selfish, and the devil tempts me with worldly promises and worldly praise. Very recently I used a talk on a retreat from Pedro Arrupe SJ famous words, which are timely for todays gospel;

Nothing is more practical than finding God, than falling in love in a quite absolute, final way. What you are in love with, what seizes your imagination, will affect everything. It will decide what will get you out of bed in the morning, what you do with your evenings, how you spend your weekends, what you read, whom you know, what breaks your heart, and what amazes you with joy and gratitude. Fall in love, stay in love, and it will decide everything.

Where is your seed today, on the path, on rocky ground, on good soil? Perhaps look at your checkbook and see where your treasure is? Mine unfortunately is way too revealing. It is spent on eating out , although not at high end restaurants but still eating out more than I eat home. Definitely something to look at and change.

What we must realize is when we discover what we really want and desire, it is what God really wants for us too. I know I can only find that when I go to the Sower each day in prayer, it is just showing up and being intentional and letting the Sower work in me and through me. It is faithfulness to time with God that we will bear good fruit  so we can stay on the path that grows good seed.

One last thought; to evangelize is important also, yesterday I listened to one of my favorite priests on a podcast from the Choices We Make television show. Fr. John  Ricardo suggested that when we are at a restaurant, which apparently I do a lot of, before we pray our blessing  do not wait for the waitress or waiter to leave to begin, but include them, ask them this question. We are about to pray the blessings is their something we can pray for you ? Wow, Ok so let me know if you try this and what responses you receive. It’s really that simple to share our life of faith.

Thanks to everyone for your encouraging words to get me started on this blog. I have no idea what I am doing or how to change the colors yet, or even why God is using me in this way, as my grammar is terrible too, but I promise I will keep trying. I have to remember God chooses the simple folk to spread the message. May God bless you with Good soil today; yesterday we give to God’s mercy, tomorrow to God’s providence, today to God’s trust and love for us. With love and prayers, always, Diane.

It Begins my Spoken Heart

So today the Lord is speaking that I should post. I had a choice facebook or take the plunge into the blog universe. So I am here, not even sure how to navigate in this world or make this site beautiful with pictures and images yet. So please be patient with me.

In prayer I was with Joanna, one of the woman following Jesus. She left behind a lot, all her comfortable possessions and riches to follow Christ. How hard that must have been. When I think of my life and all I have what am I ready to give up to follow him completely.

But then I went to my favorite book of prayer, Divine intimacy. I feel called to quote from this today.” Do you know how to recognize the moments in which Our Lord visits your soul? A word read or heard, perhaps even by chance, and edifying example, and interior inspiration, a new light, which makes you see your faults more clearly and opens new horizons of virtue and of good- all are visits from Jesus. And you, how do you correspond? Is your soul sensitive to these lights, to these admonitions? Do you not sometimes turn your gaze away, fearing that the light you have glimpsed may ask you for sacrifices, which are too painful for your self-love? Oh! if you had always recognized the moment in which the Lord visited you! Try then to begin again today.”

During the rest of prayer time and spiritual reading Fr. Jacque Phillips reminded me that the life of prayer is not a technique to be mastered but a grace to be received. Will you receive his graces today, God is already there waiting for you.

Ok it’s done first hurdle , first blog post, God is good.
